Recreational Gymnastics Program

Our Recreational Program at Vernon Hills Gymnastics focuses on developing proper body positions, flexibility and strength to complete the fundamental skills of gymnastics. Our Recreational Classes mirror the USAG Levels 1, 2 and 3. Students are required to master all skills before advancing to the next level. Students within our Recreational Program must be able to participate safely and independently.

GYMNASTICS LEVELS

REC 01

Class Details

60-Minutes, 1st Grade+



Class Description

This introductory class focuses on foundational building blocks of gymnastics in a welcoming and structured environment. Instructors prioritize basic body shapes, proper coordination, and safe landing mechanics across all events.

REC 02

Class Details

60-Minutes, 1st Grade+


Class Description

Designed for athletes with basic experience, this level shifts the focus toward building core strength and mastering body control. Gymnasts work on connecting individual movements into short combinations while transitioning to higher equipment.

REC 03

Class Details

75-Minutes, 1st Grade+


Class Description

This intermediate class challenges athletes by introducing independent execution of dynamic skills and power movements. Gymnasts will focus heavily on flexibility, core tightening, and the technical precision needed for advanced progressions.

REC 04

Class Details

75-Minutes, 1st Grade+


Class Description

Tailored for advanced recreational gymnasts, this fast-paced class emphasizes high-level elements., getting ready for a competitive style. Athletes utilize accelerated speed and power to safely execute complex skills on all events.

Coach Courtney

Recreational Director

With over 25 years of gymnastics experience, Coach Courtney has spent her career guiding athletes from early childhood through competitive teams with a strong focus on technical progression and confidence building. As our Recreational Gymnastics Director, she combines her coaching expertise with over a decade of leadership to design a positive, engaging program where every child can thrive.

Girls Rec 2 to Xcel Bronze 

Led by Program Director Coach Courtney, our Xcel Bronze non-competitive program provides a seamless bridge for athletes transitioning out of Girls Rec 2 and looking toward our Competitive Xcel Team-route. This year-round program follows the USAG Level 2 curriculum, with a heightened focus on the advanced strength, flexibility, and precise skill development needed to cultivate a competitive mindset. 


Training | What to Expect

Xcel Bronze athletes train twice a week for 1.25 hours per day, and attendance on both days is required to maintain the consistency needed for progression. 


How to Tryout | April 2027

Entry into this program is by evaluation only during our annual tryouts, which take place each April (with our next official tryout window opening in April 2027).

Girls Rec 3 to Xcel Silver 

Led by Program Director Coach Bari, our Xcel Silver competitive program provides a seamless bridge for athletes transitioning out of Girls Rec 3 or Girls Rec 4 and looking toward our Competitive Xcel Team-route. This year-round program follows the USAG Level 3 curriculum, with a heightened focus on the advanced strength, flexibility, and precise skill development needed to cultivate a competitive mindset.

Xcel Silver athletes train twice a week for 3 hours per day, and attendance on both days is required to maintain the consistency needed for progression. 


How to Tryout | Coach Recommendation

Entry into this program is by coach-recommendation only. We no longer host tryouts for our Xcel Silver program.
